ICELANDIC® USA TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL 8K RUN AND WALK

 
NEWPORT NEWS, VA, APRIL 26, 2010 – Icelandic® USA, one of North America’s leading seafood companies headquartered in Newport News, Virginia is set to host its very first annual “Icelandic® Seafood Fest 8K Run” on June 19, 2010 at 7 pm EST. 
 
Ready, Set, Go!
This one-of-a-kind event will begin with a 1-mile fun run and walk at 6:30 pm, followed by the 8K run and walk at 7:00 pm.  An incredible seafood dinner will be served post race, compliments of Bonefish Grill of Newport News, VA. The dinner will include their famous Bang Bang Shrimp, Caesar salad, Icelandic Haddock (garlic crumb dusted, grilled and topped with a lemon basil butter sauce) with jasmine rice and roll, and for dessert, a delicious gluten-free brownie topped with nuts. In addition to the post race celebration Michelob Ultra®, Red Hook ESB® Ale, O’Doul’s (non-alcoholic beer) and Icelandic Glacial spring water will be provided by M. Price Distributing Co.  Door prizes, a raffle for a trip for two to beautiful Iceland compliments of www.Icelandnaturally.com, race awards and family entertainment will be sure to make the Icelandic® Seafood Fest 8K Run a must for the entire community.   All race proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) Association and Shelby M. Blevins Educational Trust (daughter of Susan Smith Blevins).  Vice President of Finance/CFO at Icelandic® USA and Race Director Michael Thome is absolutely thrilled about the event.  “Icelandic® USA is looking forward to this exciting wellness offering to the greater Hampton Roads community and the opportunity to raise funds for some great causes”, stated Thome.

American Heart Association:  Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.  In 2010, the total cost for health care, medications, and lost productivity related to heart disease will top $316 billion.
 
ALS Association:  The mission of the ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s disease) is to lead the fight to cure and treat ALS through cutting edge research.  A beloved long time member of the Icelandic® family, Dr. Carl D. Decker, lost his battle against ALS in 2007 and is greatly missed.  We are continuing the fight for him!
 
The Shelby M. Blevins Educational Trust:  Another beloved long time Icelandic employee, Susan Smith Blevins, passed away suddenly on February 1, 2010.  Susan was the single mother of a fifteen year old daughter, Shelby.  To honor her mother’s memory, an educational trust has been established to help provide for Shelby’s college education.  Shelby is a rising sophomore in high school and is an excellent student.
